We are absolutely delighted for Matthew Davidson and Craig Johnson of the Chesterwood Stud who took Champion Miniature Shetland with their stallion Milday Ferresamo. Ferresamo is a grandson of our Brandon Fiery Jack and it is not difficult to see where he has inherited his flowing locks from! Congratulations again to Matthew and Craig.

We have spent some time this past year collecting hair samples from some of our ponies to send to the genetic lab in America. The results are, of course, interesting. We tested some of our ponies to see if they were carrying the mushroom gene and are pleased to say that 60% of those tested came back positive including Gue Uproar who was Mu/Mu. Now to decide on a future breeding programme!

Hermit's Secret Dream really is a little star with an excellent temperament. She has always done well in the show ring but besides this has also been out to visit our local care centre several times. She appears to take this in her stride and is happy visiting the different rooms in there. She is rising 4 years old so will be going to one of our stallions this year which will mean we will have to find another pony to take her place for a while.

We had a very successful showing year in 2017 although the pony who performed outshone them all was Glenbogie Fairytale. She was supreme champion at the Unst Show which was the first time a miniature had taken that title since 1980. She won various other trophies including best Brood Mare, Senior champion, best chestnut and best miniature. Other notable successes in 2017 were Gue Soprano winning cup for Best Foal at the Cunningsburgh Show, Finnister Bethany winning cup for Best Miniature Brood Mare at the Viking show and Gue Robyn winning the trophy for Best Miniature.

We had a great day at this new show for Shetland. We took 4 ponies and they all did well - Tawna Tilia was second placed miniature mare, Gue Rosalie was second placed 1 year old filly and Gue Robyn was 4th placed 1 year old filly. The star for us on the day was 2 year old Hermit's Secret Dream who was second placed 2 or 3 year old filly and who went on to win both Reserve Junior Champion and best Miniature. Suffice to say we were very pleased with the results from our first show of 2017.

Gue Rioja who was sold as a foal to Claire and Daniel Wright at the Lerwick Pony Sale in 2016 won his colt foal class at the British National Foal show in Solihull and went on to win overall Shetland Supreme Champion. We are thrilled to bits and delighted for Claire and Daniel. Rioja's Sire was our stallion Kirtstall Achilles and Dam our homebred mare Gue Delight.

We are proud and delighted that the filly Lochfleet Skelbo Serenity who sold for 1900gns at the Reading Pony Sale in October was sired by our first home bred stallion Gue Handsome and that the stallion Parlington Pickles who was sold for 2000gns at the York Sale in October goes back to the same bloodlines. Well done to both the sellers and the buyers.

Gue Stud had a great day at the 2015 Viking Show. Anderlea Clearstar won best Yeld Mare in a very strong class of 16 ponies and she went on to win reserve senior champion in the Miniature Ring. We received a beautiful glass trophy for best miniature yeld mare which had been donated by the Bergli Stud.
Tawn Tilia and Robin's Brae Quartz reversed their places won at the Cunningsburgh Show earlier in the week with Tilia taking second place this time. Quartz went on to win a well deserved Supreme Champion.
Gue Opal was first 2 year old filly and Gue Quoys was best miniature colt foal.
Gue Jules was second in a strong class of mare with foal at foot, Gue Quintessence was fourth in the miniature foal class and Gue Paloma was sixth in the 1 year old filly class.
We got third in the progeny with Quintessence and Opal.
A wonderful day and thanks must go to everyone who helped out both before and at the show.

Gue Shetland Pony Stud hosted 2DF German TV in February this year. Susanne Gelhard was visiting the places she wanted to see in the UK before she left London. I hope you like the clip. The weather was not good but the photography is great. The piece about Shetland ponies is approximately 11 minutes into the clip.

We were recently at the PBSA Youngstock Show. It was a very good show and the highlight for us was having Ingrid Dickie's daughters showing Gue Olivia (1year) and Gue Norah (2 year) in Young Handler Class. Connie won Best Handler and Bethany came in second place. The girls were so good with the ponies and a credit to their parents but we are also really happy with the way our youngsters behaved with the girls who they had never met until just before the class.
